CAN YOU USE REMOTE ONLINE NOTARIZATION FOR THE EDGAR ID FORM?
EDGAR is not Edgar Allen Poe, but rather the US Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval system used by companies required to submit time-sensitive documents including: filings, registration statements, periodic reports and more. Both publicly traded companies and certain individuals must submit these items through the EDGAR system.
Application for electronic filing is started on the SEC website and generates a 100% paperless Uniform Application for Access Codes known as the FORM ID. The FORM ID must be notarized and on February 3, 2021 the SEC adopted a rule that allows the FORM ID to be notarized by a commissioned remote online notary.
A separate FORM ID is required for each submission to EDGAR for each capacity of the filer. Capacities can include:
- Filer
- Transfer Agent
- Large Trader
- Filing Agent for another individual
- Filing Agent for another company
- Municipal Advisor
- Or: Other Types of Applicants
Once the Form ID is submitted to, reviewed by and approved by the SEC - each filing entity will have a unique, individual central index key (CIK) number assigned to the filing entity.
